How Online Gun & NFA Buying Works

How Online Gun & NFA Buying Works

Buying a firearm online is simpler and more secure than most people expect. Every order runs through licensed dealers and a federal background check, exactly as the law requires. Here is the entire process, start to finish, so you know what to expect before you order.

How buying works, step by step

Here is the whole process at a glance:

1
Order online
Buy securely and pick your local FFL dealer at checkout.
2
Ships to your FFL
We send your firearm directly to that licensed dealer, never to your door.
3
Background check
At the dealer you complete ATF Form 4473 and pass a NICS check.
4
Take it home
Once you are cleared, your firearm is yours to take home.

1. Order online

Browse our catalog, add what you want to your cart, and check out securely. During checkout you will choose a licensed firearms dealer (an “FFL”) near you to receive your firearm. If you do not already have one picked out, we can help you find one.

2. We ship to your local dealer (FFL)

Federal law requires firearms to ship between licensed dealers, so we send your firearm directly to the FFL you selected, not to your home. This is completely normal and applies to every online gun purchase, from every retailer.

3. Pick it up locally

When your firearm arrives, your local dealer will contact you. You go in, complete ATF Form 4473, and pass a NICS background check. Once you are cleared, you take your firearm home. Your dealer may charge a small transfer fee for handling the paperwork.

Key point: Firearms can never ship directly to your door, they must go to a licensed dealer. Ammunition, optics, and most accessories, however, ship straight to you.

What you’ll need

Choosing your FFL dealer

Any licensed dealer can receive your transfer, a local gun shop, a range, even many pawn and sporting-goods stores. Transfer fees are set by the dealer, not by us, and typically run a flat fee per firearm. If you need help locating a dealer near you, just reach out.

Buying NFA items (suppressors, SBRs, and more)

NFA items, suppressors, short-barreled rifles and shotguns, and similar, involve a few additional federal steps. As a licensed SOT dealer, we handle them for you.

We transfer the NFA item directly to your chosen FFL / SOT dealer, where they will complete the transfer to you.

Here is how an NFA purchase works:

Shipping and state laws

We ship nationwide wherever the item is legal. Because firearm laws vary by state, county, and city, certain products cannot ship to certain areas. If an item is restricted where you are, our system will let you know at checkout. You are responsible for knowing and following the laws that apply to you, and we follow all federal, state, and local regulations on our end.

Common questions

Can you ship a gun straight to my house?

No, firearms must ship to a licensed dealer for pickup. Ammunition and most accessories can ship directly to you.

What exactly is an FFL?

A Federal Firearms Licensee, a dealer licensed by the ATF to handle firearm transfers. Your local gun shop is an FFL.

How long does it take?

For standard firearms, you can pick up as soon as the item reaches your dealer and you pass your background check. For NFA items, the timeline depends on ATF approval.

Do I need a membership to buy?

No. Anyone legally eligible can purchase. Membership simply adds rewards, savings, and free-shipping perks.
